INTERNATIONAL MECHANISMS

The Mechanism aims to strengthen cooperation between the EU countries and 10 participating states on civil protection to improve prevention, preparedness, and response to disasters.

The Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) is the heart of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. It coordinates the delivery of assistance to disaster-stricken countries, such as relief items, expertise, civil protection teams and specialised equipment.

The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) is NATO’s principal civil emergency response mechanism in the Euro-Atlantic area. It is active all year round, operational on a 24/7 basis, and involves all NATO Allies and partner countries. The Centre functions as a clearing-house system for coordinating both requests for and offers of assistance mainly in case of natural and man-made disasters.

The project “Strengthening Responses to Security Risks from Climate Change in South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia” aims to reduce climate change-related security risks in the four project regions by raising awareness, developing capacities, and sharing knowledge within and among the project regions. It also aims to do so through the implementation of climate change adaptation measures in the geographic areas that are most vulnerable to climate change.

The Agenda 2030 provides a common framework for both humanitarian and development actors to work together with the objective to successfully address the needs of the most vulnerable and at-risk populations, leaving no one behind. There is a consensus around the importance to confront risk and to focus on resilience to achieve the Agenda 2030.

The OCHA supports humanitarian organizations to respond effectively to the needs of people caught in crises, to understand and analyse their needs, and to mobilize international assistance. We provide tools and services to help humanitarian organizations ensure that no one affected by a crisis is left behind.

In recent years, the World Food Programme (WFP) has managed complex emergencies, natural disasters, epidemics, and pandemics. Emergency preparedness and response is rooted within WFP policies and is crosscutting within all levels of the organization at country, regional, and global level.
